Dancing in the ether and spontaneous combustion JUNE 2008
AMBIGUOUS RECORDS NEWSLETTER JUNE 2008
Dear friends,
It has been a little while since I wrote with news of the goings on at Ambiguous Records. However as the old adage goes, 'no news is good news'. Following the success of Mr David Viner's (www.myspace.com/mrdavidviner) release and his subsequent signing to the highly lauded Loose Records we have been grafting hard to bring to your aural attention some wonderful new artists. Our next release will be an EP by lyric genius Rob Marr. (www.myspace.com/robmarruk)
We've thrown just a whiff of Rob's tunes into the ether and he has already been catapulted into the top 10 of the Metro Music chart (that's the London free sheet that isn't force fed daily as you fight for the tube). Sub TV, the channel that goes out to nearly every bar and radio in nearly every university in the UK have got behind our boy and featured him as artist of the week on their web page. Amazing tunes love him, another top 10 in the sixtyone.com, the list goes on. More very soon about Rob…
Alice Gun (www.myspace.com/alicegun) has been having an equally exciting time. The end of last year saw her as Mr David Viner's right hand lady on tour with the White Stripes and in the recording of his Ed Harcourt produced album. This year has seen her strike out with a band of her own and a flurry of activity with brand spankingly new material. After being spotted by BBC 6 DJ Tom Robinson and featured on his 'Introducing' show, Tom loved the track so much he invited Alice and her band to come in and perform live on his BBC 6 Friday night show (http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/tom_robinson/). He said of Alice's track 'Blanket and a box' 'really beautiful and profoundly affecting' and judging by the phone in comments his listeners tended to agree. Alice will be playing out this summer most notably at Standon Calling with both Mr David Viner and her own band.
On the subject of live events, Roxy Rawson (www.myspace.com/roxyrawson) has been asked to perform in Trafalgar Square for this year's London Pride on 5th July. She too has been popular with the DJs and in the last couple of months has graced the airwaves of Radio 1 with Rob Da Bank, BBC 6 with Tom Robinson and even radio in Chicago. Her next radio performance will be live on the new, Telegraph championed 'Behind The Mic' show on Resonance FM on Tuesday 22nd July. The Independent say of her 'beautifully peculiar' We tend to agree.
Our latest signings Melodica Melody and Me (www.myspace.com/mmmelodic) are also doing us proud. This year has seen supports with Laura Marling, Vincent Vincent and the Villains and Johnny Flynn amongst others, radio play on BBC1 (Rob Da Bank), BBC2 (Steve Lamacq) and BBC London (Gary Crowley) They will be out all summer gigging the shit out of every festival going and finishing up in my lovely home town on the Isle of Wight at the Bestival.
A plethora of news! I am very happy and post summer will probably spontaneously combust with excitement as not one but all of the artists above will be bringing out releases. It will be an action packed Ambiguous fest of new music. I'll let you know what, when, where and how very soon. In the meantime, I hope you are all fantastically well and gearing up for what promises to be an excellent festival season.
Love Al Ambiguous x
