Alice Gun launches debut single – The Swimmer
Alice Gun records in her North London drinks cabinet and down a Lakeland mineshaft, distilling macabre, seductive songs from guitars, glockenspiel, double bass, cello, E-bow, accordion and a lopsided upright.

A classically-trained multi-instrumentalist, she also plays cello for blues man Mr David Viner in a long-running collaboration which has included recording with Ed Harcourt and touring with the White Stripes. She also does house music vocals for the money.
Live, Alice Gun is joined by her producer and Damon Albarn-collaborator Al Mobbs on double bass, Robbie Jarvis on drums and Sam Campari on everything else. A string section featuring members of the Monroe Transfer will also join her for the July 6th single launch.

From Norman Records: Alice Gun has that seductive tone to her vocal that I associate with PJ Harvey and the like. Part sinister, part seductive would be a better description. Everyone in the office agrees this sounds a lot like PJ Harvey so it's not just me. We also agree that 'The swimmer' is a top tune, both eerie and uplifting in its atmosphere. B-side 'Minty Fresh' is really subtle, just a grand piano accompanied by double bass, glockenspiel and a singular vocal contribution. It's a simple and effective country ballad, kinda little Black Heart Procession but not quite as bleak. I think she's singing about brushing her teeth.
From Pure Groove: Lovely shanty folk on the fast-rising label. She's played with Duke Spirit and David Viner recently and we're loving her eerie string-laden candlelit ballads. Definitely could become a real cult fave in the coming months.
