Alice Gun

Alice Gun records in her North London drinks cabinet and down a Lakeland mineshaft, distilling macabre, seductive songs from guitars, glockenspiel, double bass, cello, E-bow, accordion and a lopsided upright.

Really beautiful and profoundly affecting – Tom Robinson, BBC 6

A classically-trained multi-instrumentalist, she also plays cello for blues man Mr David Viner in a long-running collaboration which has included recording with Ed Harcourt and touring with the White Stripes. She also does house music vocals for the money.

Live, Alice Gun is joined by her producer and Damon Albarn-collaborator Al Mobbs on double bass, Robbie Jarvis on drums and Sam Campari on everything else. A string section featuring members of the Monroe Transfer will also join her for the July 6th single launch.

Alice Gun in the Ambiguous blog

So we returned from the Wychwood Festival in high spirits - great gig, a healthy bit of sunburn and a load more songs learned from tent side jamming.

A big thank you to Tom Robinson for putting us on and Andy and Mark for looking after us so well on stage. I'm sure there are some very official photos out there but really most of our time was spent working very hard discovering the racecourse!Read more

Today we assemble all our gear and head off to the Wychwood Festival to play Tom Robinson's Fresh on the Net stage. Alice, Robbie, Sam and I had a ball playing live on his BBC6 show last year and can't wait to join Orphans & Vandals, Hoodlams and many other friends on the stage tonight.

However Alice Gun's 7" single The Swimmer is still languishing in Eastern Europe on a cutting lathe (release on 6th July) and we thought we should make some merch. And what a glorious excuse to get covered in paint (again)Read more

Dear friends,

I have just sat down with a (very) large glass of wine and started to burn copies of the CD that will be AMBIG006. We're going to give it away at tomorrow's Brick Lane gig so if you'd like a copy please do come down. Orphans & Vandals, Alice Gun, Roxy Rawson and The Mores all on one lovely CD. I feel very proud.Read more

Dear friends,

There has been lots going on in the Ambiguous camp since I last wrote. I am currently covered in ink having spent the morning watching Alice Gun being illustrated and screen printed by my friends James and Patrick from Cure Studios. This is all in preparation for our collaborative gig in Brick lane next month - more about that soon.Read more

I trust you are all very well. It has been a while since I have written. We've had public transport crippling snow, America has a new president and Ambiguous Records have two more releases on the near horizon. Happy days! The first, When a man loves another man by the most excellent Mores is set for release on 20th April 2009.
